Gregory Allen Smerdon was born, raised and schooled in Pietermaritzburg, South Africa. He came to faith in 1988 during the final year of a BA degree in Education at Edgewood College, Durban. Greg taught Mathematics at Senior Secondary level for nine years.
Soon after his conversation he became actively involved in the life of Eastwood Philadelphia Church as Youth Pastor and Worship Facilitator. Greg’s passion for the lost led him to pioneer a vibrant student ministry at Haythorne Senior Secondary School where he served as chaplain to both teachers and students. In 1989 the Church Leadership recognized Greg as a gifted Evangelist and commissioned him to this cause.
In 1990 Greg married the darling of his life Noeleen and they have two children Lydia and Philip.
Greg has served as South African National Youth Director of the Christian Assemblies Church for three years. In 1998 Greg was invited to join AE as an Evangelist/Teacher after an invitation to participate in an AE city wide evangelistic crusade.
Greg’s primary role at AE was the pioneering of the Foxfire program - a youth empowering evangelistic ministry in South Africa which he did successfully from Jan 1998 until June 2001. Greg has been involved in Church planting, leadership development and the training and equipping of youth workers nationally. Greg has preached on the continent of Africa and abroad.
In 1999 Greg attended Haggai Institute Advance Leadership Training for Evangelism in Maui, Hawaii as a participant. In 2003 Greg was invited to be a faculty member of both the Haggai Institute as well as Developments Associates International. Greg served as Youth and Young Adult Pastor at St Martins Anglican Church, Cape Town from 2001-2004 during which he completed a Masters degree in Organizational leadership through Eastern University, Pennsylvania, USA. Greg’s role at AE from 2004-2005 has been the Deputy Missions director
